Action Alert: Massive Development Proposed for Albuquerque’s West Side

The specter of a massive sub-development once again haunts Albuquerque’s West Side (the former Atrisco Land Grant). This time it’s the Santolina Master Plan, a 13,700 acre proposed development that is essentially a re-packaged version of the infamous Westland/SunCal plan that went bankrupt in 2010. La Jicarita will publish an in-depth article this week about the master plan by the Contra Santolina Working Group, a coalition of various organizations, neighborhood coalitions, and concerned community members.

The County Planning Commission is holding a hearing on the master plan Wednesday, October 1 at 9 am, One Civic Plaza, in the Vincent Griego Chambers. The public needs to weigh in on this ill-conceived, water guzzling, tax draining development.
